THE BIRD WITH TWO MINDS
Long, long time ago, there was a strange bird name Bharund. It had single body but two heads. Its neck split in two branches holding a head each. Inspite of sharing a common body the heads we're distinguished. Each head had its own mind. They seldom agreed with each other.
If one mind wanted to go east, the other would wish to go West. As a result Bharund would take one step forward and another step backwards getting nowhere. This, the life of Bharund had become a tug-of-war between the two minds. The heads we're jealous of each other.
One day, Bharund was looking for food on the bank of the river. One of the head happen to see a delicious looking fruit on the ground.
It took a bite of it and yummed, "Umm, never tasted such delicacy. It is a God's great gift."
The other head said, "Really? Let me also taste it."
As it leaned towards the fruit, the first head whipped it away and remarked, "Keep your ugly beak off this fruit. I found it. So, I will eat it."
The second head argued, "Hay! We are part of the same body. We must at least share food."
"Fine, we are the part of the same body. The stomach belongs to us both. Whatever I eat, will go into it which is your as well." The first head taunted. The second head said, "Eating does not mean filling the belly only. Tasting the food with the tongue is very important. The joy of food is in the mouth."
The first head mocked, "I am not responsible for your greedy tongue and its joy. After I eat you will also burp. Be satisfied with that burp. Now let me eat peacefully."
So saying, the first head eat the fruit with relish.
The second head jealousy watched the other head enjoying the fruit.
The second head took a vow to take revenge. It waited for the opportunity. Some days later Bharund was looking for food again. This time the second head saw a fruit. It was just what the second head wanted.
As it readied to take a bite of the fruit, the first head warned, "Hay! Hay!! Do not eat it. It is a poisonous fruit. It kills."
The second head laughed, "So what? You should not worry about what I eat. Remember what you said that day."
The first head pleaded, "We shall die if you eat it. Do not do it, please." But the second head was bent on taking revenge.
It said, "I am not responsible for your life or death. I will eat what I like. Now let me eat peacefully." The second head ate the poisonous fruit.
Bharund died a painful death.
